‘Potential Energy’ (2023), Salvaged bed springs, contact microphone, borosilicate glass rods, copper pipe ends. A kinetic, sound artwork, made in collaboration with Marek Gabrysch.
The piece was originally conceived for my show ‘Rare Bird’. I drew from the industrial landscape of the North East (in particular Blyth) but also the power of objects, their materiality, history and our use of them. The work was developed for The Bowes Museum with the inclusion of glass rods, referencing the glass used in The Silver Swan which rotate to mimic water.
‘Potential Energy’ was part of a group show ‘The Magic of the Silver Swan’, which celebrated automata and the 250th anniversary of the amazing Silver Swan. Photos thanks to Claire Collinson.
